Summary by Teachers

Mr. Brown

Fiction Book

Students will read the fictional novel “Jurassic Park” by Michael Crichton. Each week students will get together in small groups to discuss what they have read. Grading will consist of participation points, points for responses to a questionnaire, and completion of one of several optional reading or writing exercises. Choices include; at any point in the book you will write a short chapter (1500 words) that is different from the book, write another ending for the book (1500 words), design a multimedia presentation about the story, read the second book, or write a short script for a similar movie (2000 words).

Mr. Pugh

WHODUNIT? Mystery Book

Students will read “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie, and will also participate in a variety of activities that relate to mysteries and detective fiction. Required activities include reading the book, completing the study guides, solving some short mysteries and constructing a poster. Optional activities include writing your own mystery story, completing a mystery puzzle, drawing a floor plan or writing a biography.

Mrs. Puente

Non-Fiction Book

“Farewell to Manzanar” is a true story of a Japanese American family during WWII. The most important thing about the book is that it is a chapter in history that few people know and others would like to forget. Students will be required to read the 145 page book, answer questions from the readings, complete maps, participate in cultural events, and attend presentations by guests who were incarcerated at the various relocation centers.

Mr. Radman

DRAMA

Students will perform a scene from a play, approved by Mr. Radman, in front of the Corporate Academy.  Everyone will help in preparing the scenery, the costumes, and will have an active role in the actual play itself.  Parts MUST be memorized.  There will be no scripts allowed in the final presentation.  This will be a great opportunity to improve your ability to speak in front of a group.  Grading will be based on the amount of work done in the scene’s preparation.  There will also be a minimum number of lines each actor will perform.
